Parting

Parting

Parting

And yet there she was

Holding in her hands my parting gift

She smiled like she didn’t care

Yet only I could imagine

the sleepless nights she must have endured.

As I got closer she hugged me

In what felt like a eternal dream

The smell of her perfume

lingered in my mind

I was so going to miss it !

Our eyes never parted

Trying to store in my heart

The final glimpses of my better half

Finally with moist eyes

She handed me my parting gift

Her hands shivered while doing so

And she couldn’t control anymore

Floods gushed through her eyes

And she ran away never to look back

When I opened the gift

It contained the most beautiful collage

Of our childhood spent together

Of our teens wasted together

Of our youth enjoyed together

And of me joining the army .
